This Semester: The Faded Memories
Chicago has produced many different types of artist. Coming from such a diverse city it’s only right that our music expresses the same diversity. Artist such as Chief Keef, Lil Reese, and King L have the drill movement on lock, but the city is still waiting on that next Rockie Fresh or Kanye West.
Dubb Blak is a Southside Chicagoan who uses his music as a way of expression. More of an artist then a rapper, the latest mixtape from Dubb Blak “This Semester: The Faded Memories” takes you on a ride through the mind of a true artist. This mixtape as that new age rap sound with the soul of an old head hip hop lover. He gives you what he calls, “soulful music from a college kid’s perspective”. Dubb showcases his lyricism on tracks like “Mind on Annie” and “Let Me Live” always leaving you wanting more. Dubb brings a large variety of subject matter on this mixtape and gives you the full range of bars on an even wider range of topics. The production on the mixtape really gives it that balanced feel. Every track captures you with the music and Dubb keeps you listening with dope lyrics.
Dubb is lyrically nice with the ability to switch flows like the best of them. His versatility shines on tracks like “SCR” and “1.9.9.5” two of the more up-tempo tracks. His flow is similar to artist like Rockie Fresh and Wiz Khalifa, always having that ability to hop on any track and kill it. The mixtape takes a more serious turn with joints like “Let Us Pray” and “Cool El Gato” telling his story in his own way. Overall this mixtape is a great body of work. On top of great beats, dope features and a bonus track from Tru Blak, This Semester is sure to turn some heads and grab a few ears. Dubb Blak will definitely make major noise with this mixtape.
Be sure to check it out and be on the lookout for more from the whole Blak Moni team. Click the photo for the mixtape.

Pretty Cool.
CSA Astronaut Chris Hadfield performs a simple experiment showing how a wet towel reacts to being wringed out in space with a couple of students from Canada. Probably not what you expect.
Currently In Rotation.
Kid Cudi “INDICUD” - It’s been 3 years since Cudi released his last album and with the recent release of INDICUD, he shows us that he hasn’t lost a step. With quality production and nice features from everybody from King Chip to RZA, there really is no need to skip a song. The biggest difference from this one and past albums? Where the old Cudi was always dope for his relatable yet slightly depressing mood music, this album sounds more like “Yea…I’ve made it and life is good.”
JMSN “Priscilla” - Starting late last year JMSN began to make some real noise. With some standout features on The Game’s, Kaytranada’s, and Tyga’s upcoming album, the Detroit native has a very unique sound. I have played his music and heard people describe him as The Weekend with Justin Timberlake’s voice, due to the heavy desire to intoxicate yourself while listening to his music, but JMSN’s album Priscilla offers much more. The smooth, natural production captures your ears, while JMSN’s unique voice tell you stories of heartbreak, love lost and binge drinking. Something I’m sure we all can relate to.
Big K.R.I.T. “King Remembered In Time” - If you are a long time fan of K.R.I.T. as we are here at TLKT, this just might be your favorite tape from the Mississippi Messiah yet. Why you ask? How many of our favorite artists have we seen begin to get famous and eventually loose that sound you grew to love them for? Well. that is clearly not the case here. With the always perfect mix of spoken word influenced Blues melodies and trunk knocking pimp shit, K.R.I.T. produced the entire tape while even throwing in some very listenable tracks featuring Trinidad Jame$ and Future, 2 people who you probably wouldn’t expect to hear on a K.R.I.T. track. Classic from top to bottom.
Triple 6 Mafia “Underground Vol. 1 91’-94’” No this isn’t new, and yes it probably came out before many of you were born but thats exactly why its a must listen. In an age where A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, and SpaceGhostPurrp, have some of the hottest and unique sounds out, you have to understand where the influence comes from. Back in the 90’s there was NOBODY using the 808’s and heavy bass lines like DJ Paul & Juicy J. When listening to the production on this album you almost wish you could hear some of this stuff in the club today. Yes half this album is about some pretty gruesome murders, excessive drug use and disrespecting women, but shit, what rap song isn’t now days? Respect your elders.
